ReadSpeaker provides two text-to-speech tools for all Canvas users, on any device with an internet connection. ReadSpeaker in Canvas reads your course content aloud. ReadSpeaker TextAid reads text aloud in Canvas and on any website you visit.
Why It Matters for Learning
Hearing text while reading it helps many students stay focused, follow complex material, and review content on the go. Text-to-speech supports the Universal Design for Learning principle of offering content in more than one format, and itβs available to every student without a request. See Universal Design for Learning.
ReadSpeaker works best with accessible content. It reads text in the order it appears, so clear headings, real lists, and alt text on images make a difference. See Accessible Canvas Content. ReadSpeaker does not replace accommodations, which students receive through Services for 91ΑΤΖζs with Disabilities.
