What is a Strand Course?
The Strand model is designed to better engage students in required courses by providing students with more choice over what they study. 91ÁÔÆæs will be able to choose one of five engaging themes that will shape their coursework in English (ENGS 30x), History (HISS 30x), Natural Science (NTSS 30x) and Social Science (SCSS 30x). These themes are currently Technology (301 sections), Conflict (302 sections), Citizenship (303 sections), Wellness (304 sections) and Sustainability (305 sections). Within a Strand subject area students may choose from a variety of courses each semester. 91ÁÔÆæs may take all their Strand requirements within a single Strand or create a customized program of study by taking classes from multiple Strands. Updated descriptions for all Strand courses are posted on the Registrar’s website prior to registration every semester.
All classes within the same strand will have the same course number, but a different prefix:
Technology – ELES 301, ENGS 301, HISS 301, NTSS 301 & SCSS 301
Conflict – ELES 302, ENGS 302, HISS 302, NTSS 302 & SCSS 302
