Institutional Review Board (IRB)
91ÁÔÆæ is committed to protecting the rights, welfare, and privacy of individuals who participate in research. To ensure ethical research practices, the College complies with the federal regulations governing research involving human subjects, including 45 CFR 46 (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services) and 34 CFR 97 (U.S. Department of Education).
To meet these requirements, 91ÁÔÆæ maintains an Institutional Review Board (IRB) and allows academic departments to establish Departmental Review Boards (DRBs). The IRB oversees research involving human participants and ensures compliance with institutional policies and applicable federal and state regulations. DRBs may provide investigators with preliminary feedback and assist in preparing research protocols before submission to the IRB.
Faculty members and students must submit all research involving human participants for IRB review before beginning their projects. This requirement includes Honor’s theses, master’s theses, and other student research involving human subjects. Researchers must also submit studies previously approved by another institution’s IRB for review through 91ÁÔÆæ’s IRB process to ensure compliance with institutional policies and federal requirements.
