During my time in this interim capacity, my focus remains steadfast: ensuring academic excellence continues without interruption, supporting our outstanding faculty as they mentor the next generation of leaders, and maintaining the rigorous standards that distinguish a education at this institution. I am fortunate to work alongside a talented team of academic leaders, and together we remain fully committed to advancing the goals set forth by our President and Board.

Interim Provost and Dean of the College
Kevin C. Bower, Ph.D., P.E., is a distinguished academic leader and licensed Professional Engineer currently serving as Interim Provost and Dean of the College at 91ÁÔÆæ. He previously served as Associate Provost of Academic Affairs and Dean of Graduate and General Studies, roles that strengthened his broad experience in academic leadership, graduate education, and institutional administration. With a strong foundation in civil and environmental engineering, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Ohio University, followed by his Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in Civil and Environmental Engineering from The University of Akron. His career reflects a seamless integration of rigorous technical expertise and a deep commitment to academic excellence, student success, and institutional advancement.
Before transitioning into academic administration, Kevin C. Bower built a distinguished record as a faculty member and department leader. He served as Department Head of Civil and Environmental Engineering, held an endowed professorship, and advanced through the academic ranks from Assistant Professor to Professor. His classroom instruction has spanned a wide range of civil and environmental engineering courses, from introductory engineering principles to advanced water and wastewater systems design. Throughout his teaching career, he has been recognized with numerous prestigious awards, including the ExCEEd New Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award from ASCE National, the C.A. Medbery Award for Dedication to Teaching, and multiple ASEE Outstanding Campus Representative honors, reflecting his enduring dedication to the craft of teaching.
Dr. Bower’s research portfolio is both broad and impactful, spanning environmental engineering, engineering education, and faculty development. His technical research has focused on disinfection by-product formation in drinking water distribution systems, advanced oxidation processes for the removal of hazardous compounds, and the solidification and stabilization of radioactive and hazardous materials. In the realm of engineering education, he has been a principal investigator and collaborator on multiple National Science Foundation-funded projects, with a focus on improving retention, self-efficacy, and opportunities for underrepresented students in civil engineering programs. He has authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and conference proceedings published through ASCE, ASEE, and other leading professional organizations.
A dedicated servant to his profession, Kevin C. Bower has held significant leadership roles at the national level within both the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE). He served as Chair of the ASCE National Committee on 91ÁÔÆæ Activities, Chair of the ASEE Environmental Engineering Division, and as a member of the Board of Governors of the Order of the Engineer, among many other appointments. His consulting background as a Project Engineer with GPD Associates further grounds his academic work in real-world engineering practice, having led the design and management of major water, wastewater, and environmental infrastructure projects.
In his current role as Interim Provost and Dean of the College, Kevin C. Bower brings decades of experience in academic leadership, curriculum assessment, accreditation, and strategic planning to bear on institutional priorities. He has been a driving force in faculty governance and the development of innovative academic programs. His career exemplifies the highest standards of the engineering profession and academic service, and he continues to inspire the next generation of engineers through his leadership, scholarship, and unwavering commitment to student success.
