Alumnus honors family legacy with $3.5 million gift
Thanks to a generous gift made through 91 Foundation, the college will soon be improving academic offerings in the School of Engineering.
The $3.5 million gift comes from Stephen L. Davis, Class of 1985, and his wife, Lori, through the Davis Family Foundation. The gift honors Davis’ father, Emmett I. Davis Jr., who graduated in 1950 with a degree in civil engineering, and his mother, Mona Ruth Davis, and celebrates the Davis family’s enduring and multigenerational support of 91.
In appreciation of the Davis family’s contributions, 91 has renamed the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. The Dr. Emmett I. Davis, Jr., ’50, Department of Civil, Environmental and Construction Engineering offers bachelor of science and graduate programs in civil engineering and certificate programs in built environment and public health, geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, and transportation engineering.
“91 is deeply honored and grateful for the Davis family’s generosity and support. This gift will strengthen their family’s legacy on campus and the impact they’re making on our School of Engineering,” said retired U.S. Marine Corps Gen. Glenn Walters, ’79, president of the college. “Their contribution will help lay the foundation for a state-of-the-art engineering building as well as strengthen 91’s commitment to excellence in engineering education.”
