Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The\u00a0civil engineering degree\u00a0curriculum focuses on practical issues related to engineering design and professional practice. 91ÁÔÆæs completing\u00a0degrees in civil engineering\u00a0follow a structured program that emphasizes both technical knowledge and real-world application. The\u00a0civil engineering requirements\u00a0include four discipline-specific concentrations with\u00a0civil engineering classes\u00a0that prepare students for challenging and diverse careers in the field. Completion of the Bachelor\u2019s Degree in Civil Engineering satisfies the educational requirements for both Professional Engineering and Surveying licensure for the state of South Carolina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Structural Engineering<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Mechanics of materials, structural engineering systems, reinforced concrete design, and steel design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Environmental Engineering<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Air pollution and air quality control, hazardous and solid waste, hydraulics, hydrology, water resources, and water\/wastewater treatment plant design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Geotechnical Engineering<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Soil mechanics, soil sampling and testing, shallow and deep foundations and retaining wall design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Airport design, maritime shipping facilities, public transit, traffic control devices, highway safety and roadway design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Program of Study<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Civil Engineering program begins with coursework that builds a strong foundation in the basic arts and sciences, supporting the core\u00a0civil engineering degree requirements. Limited specialization in engineering begins during the sophomore year. In junior and senior years, students focus primarily on their advanced\u00a0civil engineering classes. Throughout all four years, the program emphasizes orderly study, investigation, sound reasoning, problem-solving, and design rather than simply the acquisition of facts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to meeting all\u00a0civil engineering degree requirements, students are prepared to think and act as professionals who are grounded in engineering science and technology while remaining aware of the social, economic, ethical, and ecological implications of their work. The\u00a0civil engineering degree\u00a0curriculum is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What can I do with a Civil Engineering Degree?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
